Most Wins in a Single F1 Season: The Complete Record List

By 24-0 Editorial Updated July 19, 2026

The single-season wins record is the clearest measure of driver dominance in Formula 1 — and a reminder that even the greatest years were never perfect. Here’s the ranking, drawn from every World Championship season since 1950.

What the numbers show

Verstappen’s 2023 stands alone. Nineteen wins from 22 starts is a rate no one else has approached. It obliterated the previous mark of 13, which had stood since Schumacher set it in 2004 and Vettel matched it in 2013.

The 13-win seasons were era-defining too. Schumacher’s 2004 Ferrari won 12 of the first 13 races. Vettel’s 2013 finished with nine straight wins to close the year. Both were as close to untouchable as F1 gets — and both still lost multiple races.

The 11-win club is remarkably deep. Hamilton reached 11 four separate times without ever being credited with a “record” season, a sign of how sustained Mercedes’ hybrid-era dominance was. Rosberg’s nine wins in 2016 were enough to beat Hamilton to a title in the same car.

The gap that never closes

Line these up against the calendar and the pattern is stark. The best season ever, by wins, still left three races on the table. The record has crept from 13 to 19, but the last few races of a season have always gone somewhere else — to a rival’s perfect weekend, a reliability scare, or a wet-weather gamble.

That final gap between “utterly dominant” and “perfect” is exactly what the 24-0 game asks you to close. For the flip side — the seasons where a team, not just a driver, nearly swept the board — see the most dominant F1 seasons ever.

Frequently asked questions

What is the record for most wins in a single F1 season?+

Max Verstappen holds it with 19 wins in 2023, from a 22-race calendar. That broke the previous record of 13, shared by Michael Schumacher (2004) and Sebastian Vettel (2013).

Has a driver ever won more than half the races and still not been perfect?+

Every record-setting season fell short of perfect. Even Verstappen's 19 from 22 in 2023 left three races won by other drivers.
